The release of the Dodge Dart has been anticipated for months.  The Dart is a huge deal for Dodge and all involved, and the company is very excited.  Geared for the younger generation, the Dart is fun, spunky, customizable, stylish, affordable and gets excellent MPG.  It’s definitely a sign of the times when 36 MPG highway capabilities doesn’t quite compete with some of the higher MPG capable cars in the segment.  Because Dart wants to be on par with the competition, they will be adding the optional Aero package to the Dart lineup, which will up MPG capabilities to 41.

The Dart Aero will be released around Fall and will only be available in manual transmission.  Dodge wasn’t very forthcoming with the specific nips and tucks for the Aero package, saying that it is still testing and modifying the car.  Automotive journalists expect that  Aero models will have some weight reduction, low rolling resistance tires, as well as the flat composite underbody panels and active grille shutters that are currently available on upper trim level cars.

Sergio Marchionne, chairman and CEO Chrysler Group LLC, statement regarding the passing of Dan Knott: “The Chrysler Group family is profoundly saddened today. Dan Knott was an inspirational leader, who cared deeply about the company and, most of all, his people. His passion for products shone through, and I will always remember how his child-like smile lit up the room when talked about vehicles like the Viper or our Jeep brand. He made a huge contribution to Chrysler by improving our relations with suppliers with an approach based on honesty, transparency and accountability. Dan will be missed on a professional basis, and even more on a personal level. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. ”

Motor Trend auto expert and reviewer Carlos Lago was the lucky individual who got to take the Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 on an adventure in their video episode of Ignition.  In the same arena with Mustangs and Camaros, this pony car was given credit for more than just its 6.4 liter 8 cylinder engine that produces 470 horsepower and the perfect amount of torque.  Carlos Lago gave the Challenger credit for having more curb appeal than any of the others.  Complimenting it’s retro lines and stylings that are reminiscent of the good ol’ days.

But looking special is only one part of the Challenger’s charm for Lago, who says the car just begs to be taken on adventures – whether they be long, just-for-the-heck-of-it highway cruises or spontaneous off-road excursions.  He should know, he had tons of fun on one of those exact adventures himself.

Ah, Catrinel Menghia. Fiat knows a good thing when it finds one, and so it’s no surprise to see a trio of new advertisements staring the Romanian-born and Italian-speaking model alongside the 2012 500 Abarth.

First up is a minute-long montage showing the Scorpion-addled Abarth flung around the desert while Catrinel… well, stands around looking beautiful. Next, the turbocharged 500 drives down the Las Vegas Strip while Ms. Menghia walks around looking beautiful. Notice a trend?

In the third video of this new series, Catrinel finally gets to drive the Abarth in a race against a lucky cameraman. Well, sort of. The two cars are actually piloted by “professional drivers on a closed course” – as you can see, they are wearing helmets. Catrinel and the cameraman, on the other hand, emerge from their black and white 500s with hair blowing in the wind.

No matter. Clearly these videos are meant to build upon the first extremely successful tie-up between the model and the Italian hatchback. We’ve gone ahead and included that initial commercial, along with the three new ones, below. Enjoy!
